Dn. Paul Trigg – Plays the Bass and Sings
Dn. Paul was talking by 6 month and by 1 years old, was already singing songs. He sings mostly but plays the bass to. Brought his bass that’s from Czechoslovakia from 1850-60’s. (a friend was learning to play and got a hold of it. He owed Dn. monies and knew he was interested in wanting to play…needed thousands of dollars of work.) Played trombone a bit. Was learning to read music. In the 60’s, Dn. Paul played electric base guitar that has same base notes as bass itself. Around 13 years old, Taught himself, playing by ear. One of the questions he asked the kids was “What is difference between hearing and listening?” – “Listening is what you do with your ears. hearing is what your ears do” He says he’s still learning. 🙂
Anne Schoepp – Choir Director, Singer and Musician
Anne Schoepp grew up in a Lutheran community and they sang and played and it was a glorious way to grow up. She started learning the piano and the recorder at 5 years old. In the 3rd grade, her school offered music and she really wanted to learn the violin but her dad said no. He wanted her to learn the French horn since that is the instrument that he played, but after a year she was allowed to learn whatever instrument that she wanted. Over the years, her schools offered orchestra and signing. Anne even learned to play the guitar in elementary school. In college, she had planned to get a degree in History and go to art school to be a designer. But she just couldn’t stay away from music and found out she got free lessons is she decreed her major in music. So she did voice and violin. She was also able to study conducting and composing is college as well. Before she had children she taught piano and began teaching at the Academy. She’s been teaching here for 20+ years! Right now, her main instrument is the choir. They are her instruments because the gestures she does with her hands tell them what she wants them to do with their sound. Anne has been a lifelong learner for music. She says “music is the language of soul”
